Summary
The Dental Assistant at Red Square Dental and Orthodontics is responsible for supporting clinical procedures, maintaining operatory readiness, and ensuring a high standard of patient care. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Fluent in English and Spanish (required)
- Must hold a current and active Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certificate issued by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE)
- Experience taking dental X-rays
- Strong knowledge of dental procedures and instruments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills for charting and scheduling systems
- Detail-oriented with strong focus on accuracy
- Reliable with strong punctuality and work ethic
Primary Duties
- Assist the dentist during a variety of procedures, including extractions, root canals, fillings, and crown preparations
- Prepare and set up operatories based on scheduled treatments
- Take and process dental X-rays and record patient vitals
- Fabricate provisionals and assist with crown cementation
- Obtain and review patient consents prior to treatment
- Scan patients as needed and submit cases to designated labs
- Document lab cases accurately, including chart notes and tracking systems (tablets/binders)
- Maintain clear communication with patients, doctors, and team members
- Ensure patient comfort before, during, and after procedures
Patient Care & follow Up
- Provide post-operative instructions for extractions and removable appliances
- Deliver removable appliances, including partials, dentures, and night guards
- Perform adjustments on removable appliances as needed
- Assist in exams, charting, and patient education
- Dismiss patients appropriately to treatment coordinators or front desk for scheduling
Clinical & Office Support
- Break down, clean, and sanitize operatories after each patient
- Restock treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and provider-specific supplies
- Restock hygiene areas and supplies such as toothbrushes
- Assist with SRP (scaling and root planning) workflow, including consents and charting
- Communicate with verification team regarding patient authorizations
Compliance & Standards
- Follow OSHA, CDC, and office-specific infection control protocols
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records
- Ensure proper sterilization and handling of instruments and materials
- Perform other duties as assigned to support daily operations and team objectives
